Katara: My Little Princess

This is Katara, Daddy’s Little Princess (Yes, I am man enough to admit that’s her nickname/title).

She’s the sister of my other two cats, I got her while managing a room and board – The owner dropped off a box of cats and I adopted all three. Katara originally hid out in the backyard, she’s terrified of everyone and he didn’t originally want the cats inside (changed his mind when I told him we had a mouse problem.

It took almost a month for her to trust me – Poor girl was skin and bones when she finally let me pet her and pick her up (all the food I’d put out for her got eaten by the neighbor’s giant white blob of a cat, it bulled her away from it unless I as nearby). When she finally trusted me, I went with the old adage “It’s easier to apologize than ask permission” and took her inside work her brother and sister. She’s been with me ever since as an indoor cat (save for walks on her harness) like her siblings.

Katara is the world’s most affectionate cat, she needs her Daddy Time at least three times a day: She’ll sit next to me on my bed, usually under my arm, while I watch tv and stay there for hours. Whenever I pet her she’ll lick my hand, when I’m done she’ll grab my hand with her front paws (without using claws) and pull it back to keep licking my hand. If I’m gone for more than half an hour, she’ll greet me at the door and want attention.

She’s the most timid of her siblings, it takes her a long time to trust people – If she does approach someone new without much hesitation I take it to mean they’re a good person.

As shy as she is, she loves me and shows it all the time. She’s by far the most affectionate and loyal cat I’ve ever had.
