Not entirely compatible with Furrion mount and misleading spec for viewing angle

I purchased this system for my RV based on its good reviews, advertised compatibility with the pre-installed Furrion mount on my trailer (Furrion Vision S mount model FRCBRKT-BL), and advertised 150 degree camera viewing angle.
While in general it attaches to my Furrion mount, there are some significant issues:
1) The included adapter bracket does install into my Furrion mount, but it does not seal the antenna slot in the top of the mount (see attached photo), leaving a nice gap for water to enter easily from the top (rain, snow melt, etc.). Not sure if this water can get into the trailer wall (very big problem if so), but will certainly get the wiring connections wet. If I were to keep this system I would definitely seal the gap with silicone caulk.
2) There is no gasket provided between camera bracket and Furrion adapter plate, both of which have lots of screw slots. This is another place for water to enter into the mount’s interior. I had some thin/soft rubber gasket material and cut it to fit between bracket and adapter plate – creating a much better seal.
3) The camera is quite heavy, having a metal case which makes it feel solid and well constructed. However the camera cantilevers out from the Furrion mount a fairly long distance and the included adapter plate attaches to the mount with four fairly small/short screws. I worry about these screws pulling loose over time given all the force this cantilevered camera will produce as the trailer goes over bumps in the road…
4) There are no instructions provided for installing the camera – especially no instructions detailing which of the (many) included screws to use for what. I contacted the seller for help and they just pointed me to another customer’s video on YouTube which also did not contain any details about attaching the camera.
5) The included screws for attaching the adapter plate to Furrion mount are not the right size and not enough screws. I ended up buying stainless steel #4 pan-head sheet metal screws 1/2″ length, along with stainless #4 flat washers. These worked perfectly, penetrated a long way into the Furrion mount’s screw holes, yet did not bottom out in those screw holes. Beware – don’t use anything larger than #4 here as the thin plastic posts inside the Furrion adapter might crack.
6) There are no screws/washers in the kit sufficiently large to correctly attach the camera bracket to the Furrion adapter plate. The largest screws/washers in the kit would sink down into the screw slots in the camera bracket leaving a less-than-secure attachment. I ended up purchasing #8 stainless pan head machine screws with stainless #8 lock washers, flat washers, and locking nuts (with nylon inserts).
7) The 150 degree camera viewing angle advertised on the product page for this kit is very misleading. I contacted the seller and received their clarification: 150 degrees is the “diagonal” viewing angle. Really? A diagonal measurement meaningless for a rear-view camera. They told me the horizontal viewing angle is 115 degrees and the vertical viewing angle is just 70 degrees. Especially the vertical viewing angle makes this camera impossible to use for both back-up and rear-view. See the attached drawing – it shows the camera angled down for use as a back-up camera where the bumper (or spare tire) is just viewable as a reference so you don’t hit anything while backing up. But at this angle there isn’t much distance for rear-view and you certainly can’t monitor traffic behind you effectively (I tested – it’s useless as a rear-view camera at this angle). The camera can be angled up for good/long rear-view, but then you loose sight of the bumper or anywhere near it and the camera becomes ineffective for back-up. Other systems have cameras with better angles. What you want is 90 degree vertical viewing angle so the camera works for both back-up and rear-view at the same time.
8) The camera’s antenna interferes (mechanically) with the Furrion mount such that the camera can’t be tilted up enough for true rear-view use (see the attached photo). Perhaps the antenna could be rotated sideways, but this might impact wireless performance and I believe it would still be difficult if not impossible to tilt the camera up far enough. Rotating the antenna all the way down might work mechanically but again might impact wireless performance.
I purchased this system based on the wide viewing angle advertised because I want to use it for both back-up and rear-view. Since it can’t do both, I’ll be purchasing another system – likely the much more expensive Furrion Vision S where the YouTube videos I’ve seen suggest there’s close to a 90 degree vertical viewing angle.
There are some good things about this system: The wireless performance is great, excellent picture quality, and the seller is responsive to support questions. Just be sure the viewing angle will be suitable for your purposes and be prepared to buy some additional mounting screws if you are trying to attach the camera to a newer Furrion Vision S style mount.

NEW UPDATE!
The seller responded and the system works in the 2.4GHz frequency, so it should not interfere with the TPMS. I tried relocating the TPMS monitor to a different location and achieved positive results. It turns out that the backup cam’s monitor is actually causing the disruption to the TPMS signal. With the TPMS moved just 18” away from the backup cam monitor it no longer had trouble picking up the signal from the wheel sensors.
Regarding the signal loss issue, I have purchased a remote-mount antenna and will update regarding signal quality after my next trip.
UPDATE! Lowering to 3 stars. Here is what I found after my first trip out:
1) Signal is great sitting still, but drops frequently over the road. I have an antenna extension that I’m going to try to see if it improves. I believe the loss of signal has to do with surrounding objects. It seems to work better when there are things for the signal to bounce off of. Going through the Lehigh tunnel on the PA turnpike northeast extension, I had a great signal/picture. In an open area with nothing for it to bounce off of it would fail. The good news is that the picture was stable when backing into the campground. The site I stay in requires reversing about 300 foot with several turns but is well worth the hassle.
2) This system interferes with my EEZtire pressure monitoring system. The TPMS will not read the sensors when the camera is switched on. This is a major issue for me which will need to be addressed. Watching your trailer tire pressure is extremely important, as I have seen blow-outs completely ruin trailers. I did not have any interference issues with my old furrion system. The TPMS works at 433.92 MHz. I have contacted the manufacturer of this camera system to find out what frequency it uses but have not received an answer.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
This is a great and simple system for the money. Fairly simple to operate. Seems to have a good picture day and night. Connection was stable to several hundred feet when testing in an open area, so I’m sure I won’t have any trouble while towing.
I tested this unit next to a brand new Furrion camera. My camper was pre-wired for the furrion, and when I purchased it new in fall of 2017, I bought the furrion camera to go with it. I was always disappointed in the picture quality and stability with the old furrion system, but after 2 years in the sun the camera lens was cloudy and the picture was worthless. It needed to be replaced. I hesitantly ordered the new (very expensive) furrion system. I saw this unit on sale and picked it up as well. Worth a shot, right?
The furrion has 3 things going for it… 1) it’s a seamless install on the camper, since it’s pre-wired and has the mount. 2) it has a wider field of vision, which is helpful. 3) it has built in audio. To some, it may be a good thing to be able to hear someone instructing you without them having to shout up to your driver window from 40 feet away… However, I was able to hear a buzz coming from the furrion speaker even when the volume was at zero.
Are those 3 features worth almost 4x the price of this unit? Not for me. Especially after my past experience with that brand had a camera lens become unusable in under 2 years.
I returned the furrion and installed this system instead.
Fortunately I kept the old cover plate from the camera mount when I purchased the camper. I used the furrion mount box to hide the wiring and pairing button for the new camera, and I made a little “mouse hole” in the bottom of the plate to sneak the wire out to the camera. I’m quite happy with the install. Everything is weather tight.
I have a trip planned in the next week or so, so once I’ve tested the camera on the road I’ll come back to share my experience. For now, Ill be posting photos of the picture comparison between iStrong and Furrion, a photo showing my camper several hundred feet in the distance with a clear image on the screen, a photo of my install, and a photo of the night vision test. I didn’t use as a backup camera. I mounted it inside a 4 horse trailer w/living quarters. I was worried I would have signal issues, being inside an aluminum trailer, but this wasn’t the case. It worked all the way in the back, but we mounted at the 1st divider because the young horse we wanted to watch was riding in 2nd slot. But as you can see from pictures you can see in 1 and 2 and see half of the 3rd slot. Night vision was excellent, especially for what this system cost. I used the standard antennas that came with it, so I had these results out if the box. I wired camera in to the running lights so it would have continous power while traveling. I added pigtail connections to the power so I can swap it between trailers easily. This review is written after its 1st trip (6hours) so only thing left to see is longevity.

We installed this system a couple of months ago and used during a longer road trip we just came back from. The camera and monitor and the connectivity in-between them all work very well. We have no complaints at all; image quality and refresh rate are both satisfactory.
The only thing I suggest to be aware of is that if you get the 7″ monitor, it is rather large and probably can’t be placed on top of the dash. We mounted ours on the glove compartment’s door which works well but meant a bit of work figuring out how to secure it, see image.
We never drove during night time so have no opinion on how the night vision feature works.
